X Settles Trump Lawsuit for $10M Amid Social Media Legal Battles
Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, has agreed to a $10 million settlement with U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the Wall Street Journal. This follows Trump’s legal action against major platforms over his account bans after the January 2021 Capitol riot.
Last month, Meta (NASDAQ:META) settled a similar lawsuit for $25 million. Trump initially sued Twitter (now X), Facebook, and Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) in July 2021, alleging bias against conservative voices. While Trump’s team considered dropping the X lawsuit due to Musk’s $250 million campaign donation, they ultimately pursued a settlement.
Musk, who also leads Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), now heads the Department of Government Efficiency, a White House initiative focused on streamlining federal bureaucracy. Trump’s legal team is reportedly seeking a settlement with Google, which banned him from YouTube following the Capitol riot.
Neither X, its former CEO Jack Dorsey, Alphabet, nor the White House have responded to media requests for comment.
