Windows 10 Update: Insider Preview Build Announced; Chock-Full of Features We Probably Don't Need

Microsoft recently announced the release of the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17704.

The primary update headlining the Windows 10 build are improvements to Microsoft Edge, which include a new Edge Beta Logo so that users of the Microsoft browser can differentiate between the stable versions and the preview builds of the often unused internet platform. Aside from this, there are changes to the browser's design elements, including a reorganization of the browser's toolbar, a redesigning of the Menu and Setting Tab, and the ability to customize which icons will appear in your Microsoft Edge toolbar.

Skype for Windows also gets improvements in its layout, additional call features, and even customizable themes.

Other bigger Windows 10 feature additions include the standardization of an ambient light screen adjustment feature for hardware with a light sensor, a "Typing Insights" feature that provides you with easy to access details on word count, and a predictive typing feature that learns by studying your typing pattern.

Contextual commands for text controls are included, which allow users to cut, copy, or paste in text boxes without having to rely on the current methods of doing these actions.

The new Windows 10 preview update also includes the feature of allowing you to install fonts while not having an administrator account for your unit. This ties with the introduction of fonts on the Microsoft store.

While more of a quality-of-life improvement that anything else, the ability to install fonts may best be partnered with Microsoft's Font Maker App. This is easily the new build's most exciting feature. The app can currently be used to make basic English fonts using a drawing tool with a possibility of supporting other languages.

The new Insider Preview Build adds so much quality-of-life features and tweaks to Windows 10 for any serious Microsoft user.

Unfortunately, beyond using Skype for Windows, the security improvements that come with the build, general improvements on existing functionalities, and the Font Builder App, a load of the improvements that come with the build are either handled very well by third-party applications that current Windows users already patronize, or are surface level changes that will only be noticed by the most dedicated Windows 10 fan.
