Why is cloud VPN important?

The internet can be a wonderful place. You can find out almost any piece of information you’d ever need, you can stay in touch with friends and family across the globe and access all your favorite forms of entertainment. It’s been so integrated into our lives that we can barely remember what it was like to function without it.

However, when it comes to internet safety, it seems there are always new potential threats to look out for. We’re used to the less ambiguous threats such as numbers we don’t recognize pretending to be companies or spam emails coming through asking for money. But as our internet savvy improves, as do the internet scammers out there who are trying to find out our information.

Thankfully there are many ways you can protect yourself on the internet. Using a cloud VPN is one of them but if you’re struggling with terminology, let’s take it back to the beginning.

What is a VPN?

Before we get into what a cloud VPN is, let’s look at what a regular VPN is.

VPN stands for virtual private network which essentially means that you are accessing the internet via a secure and private network connection. This provides you with anonymity on the internet and allows you to go about your business without any of your information being shared on the public internet. A VPN does this by encrypting your data which protects it from any cyber criminals out there.

VPNs are great for anyone but especially those who travel frequently or are often using public internet connections. It adds an extra layer of security and ensures your information isn’t stored anywhere on public internet connections.

With cyber crime getting more advanced, more and more people are using VPNs regularly to protect themselves. As more and more people are working remotely more regularly, using a VPN helps protect you and the business you work for as well. Home networks don’t tend to be as secure as business ones so adding a VPN can be really useful for people who work from home.

What is cloud VPN?

A cloud VPN is different to a regular VPN in that it is designed to be used via the cloud. It’s also known as a hosted VPN or a virtual private network as a service – but cloud VPN is generally easier to remember.

Cloud VPNs tend to be used a lot by businesses if their workers are working from a location other than their office. So, this tends to be people who travel a lot for work or work remotely for the majority of the time.

It ensures the safety of any sensitive information that they might be accessing. This is especially important for people working in sectors such as finance or health as they often have access to files containing personal information or access to bank accounts.

A cloud VPN is more effective in these cases as it doesn’t require any infrastructure on the person’s computer or any other device. All information is stored in the cloud so even if the device is stolen, any VPN information is safely tucked out of reach of internet scammers.

If you’re a freelancer or work for yourself in any capacity, investing in your own cloud VPN could be very beneficial. It gives you an extra safety blanket and reduces any cyber crime possibilities.

Benefits of a cloud VPN

It’s not just peace of mind on safety that makes a cloud VPN worth investing in. There are many ways in which a cloud VPN can benefit you and your business.

  1. Global accessibility

With our world ever expanding and with more people exploring remote working possibilities, it’s imperative that everything be accessible across the globe. Traditional VPNs have to be deployed in physical devices and can only be installed when within the corporate networks that they belong to. Whereas when your VPN is stored in the cloud, it’s accessible from anywhere at any time. This means more efficiency for you and your business as well as giving you the freedom you’ve been looking for.

  1. Extra security

Of course, one of the biggest plus points for cloud VPNs is the security it brings you. As cyber crime gets more advanced, we have to make sure that we’re investing in protection that is just as advanced. Cloud VPNs are extra secure due to the encryption they provide which stops anyone on public networks from accessing your information.

  1. Flexibility and scalability

As traditional VPNs are notorious for being difficult to set up, a cloud VPN eradicates that issue. This means that if you get a sudden change in staffing, you don’t have to spend weeks on end setting everyone up. It can all be done remotely and with a lot more ease. We can all hope for business expansion and now it won’t come with any of the usual issues in terms of set up.

  1. Accessible via mobile devices

Traditional devices are also known for being difficult to install on mobile devices whereas cloud VPNs don’t suffer with this issue. This makes it a lot easier for your workers and you as there is no hassle making changes on different devices.

Investing in a cloud VPN service is sure to save you and your business time and money. It opens up the world to you in terms of accessibility and reduces the amount of set up time required. There really is no downside so why not consider installing a cloud VPN service today?
