Upbeat December global PMI rounds off best year since 2014 – IHS Markit

Positive December IHS Markit PMI surveys rounded off the best year since 2014, with businesses in growth mode, as seen in increasing investment and decade-high hiring. A surging euro area continued to lead the growth, with the U.S., U.K., and Japan also reporting strong but comparatively modest paces of expansion.

Meanwhile, the emerging markets collectively notched up the best monthly growth since January 2013. The year as a whole was the best since 2012 for the emerging markets, further emphasizing how the global economic upturn is becoming more widespread. Noticeable improved performances were witnessed in India and China in December.

“With the fourth quarter looking to have been solid for all major economies, the focus now turns to the extent to which growth can be sustained”, stated IHS Markit.
