University of Central Florida Students visit Clearwater’s Scientology Information Center and Social Betterment Centers

CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 22, 2018 -- On Saturday Feb 18th, students from Orlando’s University of Central Florida (UCF) visited downtown Clearwater to learn what is Scientology at the Scientology Information Center. They left with an understanding of the Church’s beliefs and how its humanitarian programs help the world.

Nicole, a student of UCF and President of their religious study club had visited the Scientology Information Center to do a paper on Scientology for a comparative religions class last September.

This Saturday, Nicole seven members of the group drove from Orlando to tour the Information Center. While touring they learned the basic beliefs of the Scientology religion and asked more in depth questions about Scientology.  These questions included, “Do Scientologists believe in God?” and “Do Scientologists have other faiths in addition to Scientology?”

As part of the tour the students also visited the six humanitarian centers supported by the Church of Scientology: United for Human Rights, The Way to Happiness, Foundation for a Drug-Free World, Criminon, Scientology Volunteer Ministers and Citizens Commission on Human Rights. These organizations help the community to solve the every-day problems faced by people of all denominations.

Each of the centers they visited provided the students with brochures of about the programs.

“I actually had a totally different idea of what Scientologists believed. I got things clarified. I didn’t know that people can use Scientology and retain their religious own beliefs,” said Amaris.

Nicole said, “Thank you again for taking the time out of your day to give the group a tour, we all enjoyed it and are excited to read the books and watch the videos that were given to us! We all learned a lot about Scientology and all the good it provides throughout the world.”

“I find that most people are curious about Scientology and its beliefs and they enjoy being able to find out for themselves what it really is,” said Amber Skjelset, Manager of the Scientology Information Center.

The Scientology Information Center:

The Scientology Information Center, located in the Historic Clearwater Building in downtown Clearwater, opened on July 11, 2015, and currently houses a gallery of audiovisual displays with some 400 videos. The Center is open to all provides a self-guided tour showing basic Scientology beliefs, Churches around the world, ongoing social programs and the life of L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology’s founder.
