Netflix Inc. is preparing to open in the first half of 2022 its first directly managed shop in Tokyo, where scenes from shows and films will be recreated and related goods are sold.
It will be the first of its kind in the world for Netflix, which is aiming to merge the internet's virtual world with the real world in a physical store setting.
A recreated set from a popular Netflix original “The Naked Director,” is set to be on display at the shop.
Netflix has about 5 million paying subscribers in Japan.
It has 208 million total streaming customers worldwide at the end of March, with those in North America accounting for the most.
Netflix may also hold an exhibit at the store detailing how it introduces and recommends programs based on artificial intelligence analysis.
The streaming giant is working to increase exposure to customers in a real-world setting for it to continue growing in the Japanese market.
