US under Trump Series: US congress preparing bill to curb Presidential power on Russian sanctions

A bipartisan bill is being pushed in congress, both in senate and in the House of Representatives that is aimed at keeping a check on the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, who has made bettering relations with Russia as a cornerstone of his foreign policies, when it comes to sanctions lifting on Russia. The bill, introduced by a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers in both chambers of Congress on Wednesday, would give the Congress the responsibility to review any sanctions relief on Russia before it takes effect, similar to lawmakers granting themselves the authority to review the nuclear deal with Iran.

Democrats have alleged that many in the Trump administration including the President himself have connections with Russia and that makes the administration’s stance, soft towards Russia. Recently, President Trump’s national security advisor Michael Flynn had to resign after it was revealed that he acted in an illegitimate way to talk sanctions with a Russian ambassador before he got into the post officially and the Obama administration was still in charge.

Mr. Trump shrugged off the Russian connection report calling it nonsense.
