US under Trump Series: Trump has supports of Republican senate and congress

Last weekend, President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning immigrants from seven countries around the world, which are predominantly Muslim countries but all are from war-torn regions and where terrorists are quite active. Despite no mention of Muslims, Donald Trump’s travel ban was portrayed as a Muslim ban in most of the media around the world. He, however, said during his campaign that he would temporarily ban Muslims from entering the United Sates. The point is that the order was a big deal, Muslim or not. It is not an entirely unprecedented one but definitely unprecedented in a very very long time. So, the question was, whether the Republicans would support his extreme actions (if it is really that) or condemn it just like many of them did during the campaign.

And it turns out that the President has the support of both the House and the Senate. It turned out that the House majority speaker Paul Ryan is not exactly opposed to it but he regretted the confusion and said that he, of course, doesn’t want the green card holders be detained as it is not the goal.

Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell also didn’t speak against Trump’s executive actions, instead called for GOP unity in order to get the Trump nominees through.
