US under Trump Series: Trump failed to clarify strategy on Assad

Speaking to the Fox and Friends last month, US President Donald Trump gave himself a ‘C’ when it comes to effective communication. He has probably judged himself right as his government has so far failed to send a clear signal when it comes to President Bashar al-Assad and Syria. Throughout his campaign, he was doing better; sending out clear signals. While President Trump has repeatedly said that he favors secrecy around military operations; he should, however, clear up the political stance of the White House towards Syrian President.

During his campaign, Mr. Trump has said that he prefers better relations with Russia, expects the two countries to cooperate in matters of fighting against ‘Radical Islamic Terrorism’. Destroying the terrorist organization known as the Islamic State has been one of the most prominent vows he made during his campaign. It is also a very important geopolitical issue as the two global superpowers; Russian and the United States have been fighting on the opposite sides when it came to keeping Assad in power.

Recently, President Trump has put US military boots in Syria which was defended as a part of President’s strategy in destroying Islamic State. However, the United States have failed to respond to Mr. Assad’s interview with a Chinese Media, where he called the deployed US troops as invaders. He said that his government has granted no permission to the deployment. He extended his criticism by saying that the U.S. cannot solve problems but create. He cited examples of Iraq while accused the US of being good at making messes not solving problems.
