US under Trump Series: Is Trump giving up on Chinese help with North Korean aggression?

After being inaugurated as the US President in January, President Trump escalated tensions with North Korea by sending an armada consisting of several U.S. aircraft carriers and submarines in the Korean Peninsula in response to North Korea’s continued test of ballistic missiles and nuclear bombs. The move came days before North Korea was supposed to conduct its sixth nuclear test. While the test was not conducted, North Korea continued its defiance of global pressure and kept on testing several short and medium range ballistic missiles.

During a two-day meeting at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort, Florida Mr. Trump urged the President of China, Xi Jinping to help with the North Korean tensions, help to bring the isolated country to a diplomatic table where solutions could be found. President Trump expressed his confidence with China as it is the single largest trading partner of the isolated country.

After months of relative calm, the tensions between the United States and North Korea rose again this week as the Student who was detained for 17 months and returned by North Korea last week in Coma, died earlier this week. President Trump tweeted, “The U.S. once again condemns the brutality of the North Korean regime as we mourn its latest victim. Video: https://instagram.com/p/BVkTvCqAHLI/

His following tweet is what made us concern and ask the question whether President Trump has lost confidence with China for helping with North Korea. President Trump tweeted, “While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi & China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out. At least I know China tried!”
