US under Trump Series: Crisis with Mike Flynn

The Trump administration in the United States suffered the first major blow as a scandal of ethics erupted with Mike Flynn, President Trump’s National Security Advisor. According to reports from last week, Michael Flynn allegedly called the Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak on 29th of December; the very same day the Obama administration imposed additional sanctions on Russia to assuage concerns. The talks allegedly covered sanctions as Mr. Flynn assured rolling back of sanctions under the new President Donald Trump, who has promised to seek better relations with Russia throughout his campaign.

If the allegations are found to be true, that would mean than Mike Flynn was illegally trying to undermine the policy of outgoing President Barrack Obama while not being in office yet. As per the guidelines, calls were recorded and that imposes a fresh threat to the administration as Vice-President Mike Pence came out backing Mr. Flynn in the media.

Now critics are suggesting that Vice-President probably knowingly backed Mr. Flynn, who denied the allegations then but later publicly apologized. If that is not the case, then Mr. Flynn would’ve lied to both the Vice President and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In such a case, Mr. Trump would’ve little choice but to replace Michael Flynn as the Security Council advisor.
