US under Trump Series: China and Iran complex Russia-US relation

The US President Donald Trump has fought with almost every news anchor, every media and all the liberal politicians to assert his view that restoration of the relations between Russia and the United States is a good thing, not a bad one. It has been clear that Mr. Trump wants Russia by its side as an ally in his fight against ‘radical Islamic terrorism’.

But can the restoration of relations be a reality?

If you say improvement, then it is definitely possible and it is under way already. But can they become best of pals? Not very likely; given Donald Trump’s opposition to China and his branding of Iran as number one terrorist state. Mr. Trump has not only confronted China in terms of trade but he has stressed his unwillingness to accept ‘One China’ policy if China doesn’t retract from its military adventures in the South China Sea. He has also pressed China on North Korea, which is a nuclear-armed state.

While Russia said that it is willing to talk to China with regard to North Korea, the country’s spokesperson said that they do not accept the branding of Iran as a terrorist state. In both cases, the Russians have highlighted their close relationships with both of these countries.

At this point, it is far from clear, how US and Russia can become the best of friends with China and Iran between them. In addition to that, even if trump wins the next election, there is no certainty that the next President would be as welcoming to the Russians as Mr. Trump.
