Republican second runner Ted Cruz and third runner John Kasich have announced last weekend that they are teaming up for rest of the primaries in order to prevent front runner Donald Trump to secure the party’s outright nominations. Ted Cruz has 559 delegates and John Kasich has 148, both far away from the magic number, 1237 delegates required to win the party’s outright nominations. With only 733 delegates up for grab, John Kasich’s bid in the primaries is practically dead. While Cruz has still slimmest chance to win outright nominations but that will require him to win more than 90% of rest of the delegates, a task next to impossible. So they will team up and concentrate more
Both of These candidates’ only hope is a contested convention, where delegates are free to shift sides and Donald Trump is widely expected to lose that battle. Trump needs about 392 more delegates to secure his nomination or about 55% of the remaining delegates.
Next major primaries are scheduled today, where 5 states will go to vote with 118 delegates up for grab in total. This will be first mark, to know whether Donald Trump’s campaign got momentum or not, after he won New York.
However, the strategic duo are targeting bigger states, where winner will get all the seats. Cruz is focusing on Indiana, whereas Kasich focusing on Oregon and New Mexico.
