UK, Ireland braces for McDonald's McPlant Burger debut in over 250 locations

Each McPlant will be cooked and prepared separately from other items on the menu.

McDonald's announced that its McPlant burger will be trialed at 10 restaurants in Coventry later this month, before being rolled out to over 250 locations throughout England and Ireland in mid-October.

McDonald's co-developed the McPlant patty with Beyond Meat. The chain has also devised a vegan cheese and vegan sesame bun.

Each McPlant will be cooked and prepared separately from other items on the menu.

As a result of the all-vegan accompaniments, McDonald's is ensuring the product doesn't come in contact with any non-vegan grills or utensils.

In February, McDonald's and Beyond Meat entered into a "three-year global strategic agreement."

That means Beyond Meat would be McDonald's "preferred supplier" for McPlant patties going forward. The two firms would also be working to develop additional plant-based products, such as chicken, pork, and eggs.

UK-based reviewers who got to sample the McPlant burger before its official launch praised its meaty taste and cheese quality.

The Mirror's Rosaleen Fenton said that while she found nearly all vegan cheeses to be inedible, it's hard to tell the cheese from McPlant burger apart from standard cheese. She added that the burger finely imitates meat taste and texture.
