Newport News, VA , Sept. 02, 2016 -- Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System is pleased to announce that its Bon Secours Virginia Nurse Residency Program at Mary Immaculate Hospital and the Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital’s Registered Nurse (RN) Fellowship Transitions in Practice Program have achieved accreditation with distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Bon Secours Mary Immaculate is the first hospital in the nation to earn accreditation with distinction from ANCC for its RN Fellowship Transitions in Practice Program and the Nurse Residency Program is the fourth program in the nation to be recognized. Bon Secours Mary Immaculate was also the first hospital in the Hampton Roads region to achieve Pathway to Excellence in 2012, was re-designated by the ANCC in December 2015 and received the national Pathway award in 2013.
“We are proud that Bon Secours Mary Immaculate is recognized by ANCC as one of the highest-quality transition programs for nurses,” said Jeff Doucette, DNP, RN, FACHE, CENP, LNHA,
Regional Vice President, Chief Nursing Officer, Clinical Services for Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System. “ANCC accreditation gives nurse residents and fellows assurance that Bon Secours offers an elevated transition program with a clear course of instruction and reliable evaluation methods. With ANCC accreditation, our transitioning nurses gain the skills and confidence needed to perform effectively within a new practice setting.”
ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation with Distinction validates hospital residency or fellowship programs that transition RNs and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) into new practice settings that meet rigorous, evidence-based standards for quality and excellence. Nurses in accredited transition programs experience curricula that promote the acquisition of knowledge, skills and professional behaviors necessary to deliver safe, high-quality care.
