OCALA, Fla., April 10, 2016 -- Town & Country Animal Hospital is raising awareness about its emergency pet services and how they can help save a pet’s life. There are various emergency conditions for pets that require immediate medical attention, and having Ocala veterinarians available at all hours can make a huge difference. Pet emergencies require immediate medical care for which Town & Country Animal Hospital can provide treatment.
When It’s An Emergency
There are evident circumstances when a pet needs emergency treatment. When a pet suffers a serious physical injury, such as a broken bone, severe bleeding or trauma from being hit by a car, time is of the essence. However, other instances also require immediate medical care, including ingestion of a poison, heat stress, snakebites or when pets have two or more episodes of vomiting or diarrhea in a 24 hour timespan.
If a pet suddenly collapses, starts to have tremors, or refuses to eat food (for more than 24 hours), these are strong warnings signs that something is seriously wrong. In such circumstances, a trip to the vet can often mean the difference between life and death.
Effective Treatment Options
When pets arrive at Town & Country Animal Hospital for emergency services, they first go through triage. Pet owners will be asked a series of questions about the condition of their pet, such as what kind of toxin they ingested or how long they’ve been exhibiting symptoms, which will help determine the best course of treatment. From there, the veterinarians and their trained staff will assess the pet and apply the necessary treatment.
“Every pet who comes in for emergency pet services is cared for as if the pet is our own,” said Dr. Kelly Culbertson, DVM . “We use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and have the expertise and staff to ensure pets receive the best care possible in often very difficult circumstances.”
The veterinarians at Town & Country Animal Hospital are available six days a week for scheduled pet care services. Our hospital hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 6pm and on Saturdays, from 7:30am to 12pm.
However, many emergencies seem to happen after hours, so Town & Country Animal Hospital have taken measures to ensure 24-hour emergency care for all pet owners. Town & Country Animal Hospital is a proud partner with UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services (PETS), located in Ocala. They provide additional hours of emergency care for pet owners in Ocala and the surrounding area when the local veterinarians are closed.
