“Total War: Three Kingdoms” patch 1.4.0 arrived last month bringing in tons of new content into the game. Aside from fixing known bug issues, the update likewise introduced new playable character, legendary characters, new units, new battle features, and abilities.
New playable character - Tao Qian
One of the most exciting additions to the game brought by the “Total War: Three Kingdoms” patch 1.4.0 is Tao Qian, a new playable character. This character is available for both 182 CE and 190 CE start dates.
Tao Qian has access to a new resource called displace population which is increased by sieges that are happening across China. The actions of all other factions, not just the player’s will contribute to this resource.
There are two new units available for Tao Qian, the Territorial Spearman and the Territorial Archers. These units will receive combat bonuses if they are defending.
New Legendary Characters
The “Total War: Three Kingdoms” patch 1.4.0 also introduced four Legendary Characters into the game. They are Lu Zhi, Huangfu Song, Diao Chan, and Xun Yu.
Lu Zhi was a scholar of the Han Dynasty who led many successful assaults against rebels. Huangfu Song was a Han general who was pivotal in the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Diao Chan, known as one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, was responsible for driving a wedge between Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu. Xun Yu was an astute advisor to both Yuan Shao and then Cao Cao.
New Units
Players can now employ new units thanks to the “Total War: Three Kingdoms” update. There six new Imperial units, Imperial Household Cavalry (Melee Cavalry, Earth), Imperial Lancer Cavalry (Shock Cavalry, Fire), Imperial Sword Guard (Melee Infantry, Metal), Imperial Palace Cavalry (Crossbow Cavalry, Water), Imperial Palace Crossbowmen (Crossbowmen, Water), Imperial Gate Guards (Spear Infantry, Wood).
There are three new Qiang units. They are Qiang Warriors (Melee Infantry, Metal), Qiang Archers (Missile Infantry, Water), Qiang Polearms (Spear Infantry, Wood).
There are six Yellow Turban units. They are Huanglao’s Paragons (Dual Sabre Infantry, Metal), Jiazi Raiders (Melee Cavalry, Earth), Righteous Vanguards (Shock Cavalry, Fire), Stalwart Shields (Spear infantry, Wood), The Land’s Chosen (Archers, Water), and Fervent Defenders (Two-Handed Ji, Wood).
