“The Punisher” Will Have No Claire? Rosario Dawson Confirms; Jon Bernthal Credits “Spider-Man: Homecoming” Star Tom Holland For His Marvel Audition Success

Netflix’s next Marvel Comics-based series “The Punisher” Poster

Rosario Dawson came into our small-screen Marvel universe consciousness as nurse Claire Temple, the woman who tended to a heavily injured Matt Munro (Charlie Cox) in “Daredevil.” So far, she is seen playing key roles in “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” and the latest superhero series on Netflix, “Iron Fist.”

But don’t expect her in “The Punisher,” according to multiple reports.

Dawson recently opened up about her involvement in all of of the shows and confirmed to not expect her to appear alongside Frank Castle, who will be played by Jon Bernthal, in the upcoming series. Dawson clarified in an interview that although her character will be meeting Frank Castle in another highly anticipated Netflix series “The Defenders,” there is an obvious reason why she won’t be making a cameo in “The Defender.”

"At the end of the day, it's really hard to get all of those casts together. For 'The Defenders,' it was difficult to get everybody together. People are busy! I really wanted to do a cameo on 'The Punisher,' but it doesn't always work that way," she explained.

Meanwhile, Bernthal revealed that it was another superhero who helped him landed the gig of a lifetime. During an interview at the Tribeca Film Festival, Bernthal revealed that he and actor Tom Holland collaborated on their audition tapes in the hopes of landing the Marvel characters, Variety said. Bernthal read lines off-camera for Holland’s audition for the role of the new Spider-man, while Holland acted out a scene with the former “Walking Dead” actor in the latter’s audition as the gun-toting assassin.

“They use mock scenes, but it was a man telling this young boy about shooting a deer --- describing the moment of killing a deer, I believe. We had to play that the deer was there and I see him getting ready to kill it. He was off camera and we were like, 'get in here and do it with me,” he said.

Cinemablend said Bernthal’s debut in “The Punisher” will debut in the fall this year, and in “The Defenders” on August 18th.
