“The Originals” Season 4 Spoilers: Cast Member Daniel Gillies Talks About His Character’s Latest Death; Will There Be A “Happily Ever After” With Hayley?

In the previous episode of “The Originals” Season 4, we saw the grave encounter of Elijah The Original with the Hollow. The elder Mikaelson’s demise may have some of the fans wondering whether it is truly the end of Elijah.

But actor Daniel Gillies, who plays the well-dressed Original, is apparently not worried. He told TVLine, “How many deaths has Elijah had? I haven’t got the count, but I think a few fans do. At this point, we’ve kind of cried wolf. It’s different every time. It depends on what weapon you’re being murdered with, if you want it slow or fast, and how exhausted you are on set that day. … I’m joking about that last one, of course. It’s contingent on so many little factors. I never want to die exactly the same way twice, even though a couple of the deaths I’ve had might have been similar.”

On the other hand, Elijah’s death is another roadblock towards a full-blown romance that could have developed between him and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). As fans have observed since Season 1, the two’s paths have never been aligned. And if they do, they are only allowed for a brief respite until someone of the two (mostly Elijah) ends up in a predicament.

Gillies noted this and chimed in a few thoughts of his. He said, “It’s sort of who they are, that’s their greatest obstacle. Have you ever been in a relationship where you’re kind of doomed from the get-go? You can sense it in your bones. There’s that feeling that you’re drawn to one another, but at the same time, you’re resisting it with good instinct. And those first instincts are the ones that need to govern. At the end of the day, [Hayley will] always be the mother to Klaus’ child, and he’ll always be murderous monster in a suit. I don’t think they’ll ever extricate themselves from what they are. And what they are at their deepest selves can’t share a sustainable relationship.
