About The Louis Armstrong House Museum:
The Louis Armstrong House Museum preserves and promotes the legacy of Louis Armstrong, and educates and inspires future generations through community programming. Louis Armstrong and his wife Lucille purchased a modest home in the working-class neighborhood of Corona, Queens in 1943, where they lived for the rest of their lives. Since 2003, this National Historic Landmark has been open to the public six days per week and the Museum has sponsored a variety of educational and cultural public programs. The Research Collections of the Louis Armstrong House Museum are the world’s largest publicly held archives for any jazz musician. An invaluable resource for researchers from around the world, the Archives are the first place that students, scholars, record companies, publishers, and television producers go for information on Louis Armstrong. They have hosted luminaries such as Quincy Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Hillary Clinton and Ken Burns as well as musicians and fans who consider a visit to the historic home an important pilgrimage to a place that still radiates the spirit of this international icon.
The Louis Armstrong House Museum will host their Annual Gala on Tuesday, January 23 at Capitale, bringing to a close the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of "What A Wonderful World." The Gala will honor special guest Wycliffe Gordon with the Louis Award; and feature special tributes to the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation and longtime Louis Armstrong House Museum Executive Director, Michael Cogswell.
The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation donated Louie’s and Lucille’s Corona home to the city of New York, and Armstrong’s archives to CUNY Queens College, making it possible for the creation of the Louis Armstrong House Museum.
