Excited for Marvel’s “The Defenders” on Netflix? Multiple reports are now saying that the superhero ensemble series will take place just one month after the events that happened in “Iron Fist.”
This was confirmed by Jessica Henwick, who played breakout “Iron Fist” character Colleen Wing, who helped Danny Rand (Finn Jones) come to terms with his powers. Danny will be joined by his fellow street superhero fighters Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) in an undisclosed mission in the upcoming “The Defenders.”
Henwick shared about her character’s development in the upcoming show in Entertainment Weekly, “We pick up with Colleen not in New York — which is crazy, as all the shows have been predominantly in New York. We find her a month after we left her. It’s really interesting she hasn’t been able to deal with the emotional trauma she dealt with in Iron Fist. So it builds to a head and she explodes in Defenders.”
The most interesting part of her interview is whom her character will share scenes with. She added, “It’s good, it’s really good. I think people are going to love seeing characters interact with each other, they’re going to see Colleen and Misty [Simone Missick], they’re going to love seeing Luke Cage with the Iron Fist, Danny Rand. I think fans are going to freak out.”
To a comics fan, the Colleen Wing-Missy Knight team-up is quite exciting. CBR points to a 1977 comics showed the two partnering up to be the Daughters of the Dragon, perennial supporting characters to the new Power Man and Iron Fist series, which evidently is top-billed by Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Jones himself even supported a spinoff series for the two female heroines in an earlier interview, saying, “I think it would be awesome to see a television series with the Heroes for Hire (The Defenders) and the Daughters of the Dragon working together to take down crime, it would be cool.”
Marvel’s “The Defenders” will debut on Netflix on August 18.
