The attendees enjoyed a three-course lunch courtesy of the award-winning Fort Harrison Chefs, as well as entertainment from members of the Flag Band.
The purpose of the Tampa Bay Women in Tourism is to unite and represent the interests of professional women for educational and networking activities in sale and promotion of tourism. The group also takes on charitable causes, raising funds which go to local charities through chance drawings at their monthly meetings.
This is the fourth year that the Church of Scientology has hosted this luncheon. The Church underwrites the cost of the lunch, thus allowing funds the attendees would usually pay to be donated to the charity of the group’s choosing.
This year the benefitting charity was Nourish To Flourish, founded by Public Defender Mr. Bob Dillinger. There are an estimated 7,000 chronically hungry children in Pinellas County. With the funds raised from the lunch, these children will have access to food over the weekends. $150 will feed a child during the school year.
“The Tampa Bay Women in Tourism are a group who not only take pride in their professions, but are a benevolent group who care enough to do something about the problems occurring in their community,” said Lisa Mansell, the Public Affairs Director for the Church of Scientology. “We are very proud to host them.”
The Fort Harrison:
Since its restoration in 1927, the Fort Harrison has been the home to many charitable organizations. The latest owner, the Church of Scientology, completed a top to bottom restoration of the Fort Harrison in 2009, and since then has hosted over 300 community events there. Scientology is an applied religious philosophy developed by author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard.
