Several leading Japanese semiconductor equipment manufacturers have been recognized with 2025 Supplier Awards from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), highlighting their growing importance in the global chip supply chain. ULVAC, Advantest, Canon, and Ebara confirmed on Tuesday and Wednesday that they were among the award recipients, following TSMC’s official announcement on November 26. Industry sources indicate that recipients faced restrictions regarding the timing and manner of public disclosure, which explains the staggered confirmations.
In total, TSMC granted supplier awards to 30 companies worldwide, reflecting its emphasis on strengthening partnerships amid rising demand for advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Among Japanese equipment makers, SCREEN Holdings, Disco, and Kokusai Electric were also honored, underscoring Japan’s continued influence in critical chipmaking tools such as lithography, wafer processing, testing, and manufacturing equipment.
The awards are widely seen as a benchmark of supplier performance, evaluating factors such as product quality, technological innovation, delivery reliability, and long-term collaboration. Recognition from TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, is particularly significant as the company continues to expand production of advanced nodes for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and next-generation consumer electronics.
Notably absent from the 2025 recipient list was Tokyo Electron, a major Japanese semiconductor equipment supplier. Tokyo Electron had received the highest number of TSMC supplier awards since 2021, totaling four recognitions, making its omission this year a point of attention for industry analysts.
For Advantest and Ebara, the 2025 awards mark a major milestone, as this is the first time either company has received a supplier award from TSMC. Advantest is a global leader in semiconductor testing equipment, while Ebara is known for precision fluid machinery and pumps used in advanced chip fabrication. Their inclusion signals expanding opportunities for Japanese firms within TSMC’s supplier ecosystem.
Overall, the 2025 TSMC Supplier Awards highlight the evolving dynamics of the semiconductor industry and reinforce Japan’s strategic role in supporting the world’s most advanced chip manufacturing operations.
