Bethesda finally released the first trailer containing some gameplay action for its much-awaited space RPG "Starfield." Following the unveiling of new trailers, the developer has also provided more details on what to expect from the game and how it compares to other popular Bethesda IPs.
"Starfield" director Todd Howard said in an interview with IGN that the upcoming game's main quest will take longer to complete compared to other Bethesda titles. The main story alone is said to be 20 percent longer than "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" and "Fallout 4" because of the quests included. Howard noted that, not including the side quests, players might need 30 to 40 hours to finish the game.
During the joint Xbox and Bethesda showcase last Sunday, the developer released the gameplay reveal for "Starfield." It revealed several NPCs that players would encounter in the game, along with other story details. It was announced last year that, while there are different factions in the game, the main aspect of the player's story is joining the Constellation -- an organization of the last space explorers.
The gameplay trailer revealed that players will have some "initial encounters" before they meet people from the Constellation. Players will proceed to the New Atlantis in Planet of Jemison, where they will receive the mission and contribute to Constellation's goal of knowing "what's out there."
Bethesda games have long been popular with the modding community, and Howard suggests "Starfield" will be another mod-friendly title from the studio. "Certainly we're going to be doing extra content for this game, and we love our modding community," Howard said. "We actually think this game, for our modding community, is going to be a dream as there's so much they could do."
There are still many unanswered questions about the story of "Starfield," and fans will still have a considerable amount of time after the game was delayed. The space RPG was originally scheduled to launch on Nov. 11 this year, but it is now slated to launch sometime in 2023. The game will be released on PC and Xbox Series X/S, and it will be available on Game Pass at launch.
