Starbucks Korea is in fourth place in the ranking for countries with the most stores. The region made it to the top five despite having a smaller population than other nations on the list.
Koreans’ Coffee Obsession
This means that Starbucks is currently the leading coffee brand in South Korea as well. This also shows the incomparable love that locals have for coffee. It can also be observed that coffee is not simply a beverage to drink for most Koreans, but it has already become part of their culture.
Business Korea noted that ranking fourth in the world in terms of store count illustrates the people’s fondness for coffee. In the country, this love only gets stronger as most Koreans have the same daily routine of drink, work, and play. They truly start their day with a cup of coffee before work or play.
Starbucks Store Locations
Starbucks Korea also reigns in terms of sales in the local premium coffee market. The world ranking based on store count placed No. 4 because the number of outlets increased by 116 in 2023 alone. The new stores brought the number of locations to 1,893 as of Feb. 12.
The top three in the ranking are the United States with 16,446 stores, China with 6,975, and Japan with 1,901. Starbucks Korea slightly beat Canada with 1,465 and the United Kingdom in the sixth place with 1,297 stores.
Smaller Population But Big on Coffee Consumption
Korea Bizwire reported that Japan may have bested Starbucks Korea by a small margin, but the company is still a winner because the Japanese population is twice the size of South Korea’s. In any case, the Shinsegae Group Corp. operates the coffee chain in the country after signing a partnership deal with Starbucks. The first store was launched in Seoul in 1999.
