Sony could be making a major change with their next flagship smartphone. More clues surfaced recently suggesting that the Sony Xperia XZ3 is designed with just a single-lens camera but packed with a hefty 47MP resolution.
Since Sony is known for supplying some of the best mobile camera parts even to other smartphone companies, many tech fans hold high expectations of the still-unannounced Sony Xperia XZ3. So it might be pretty shocking to others that the company is already ditching the dual-lens camera setup, which obviously became the trend in the recent years.
The single-lens camera on the rear of Sony Xperia XZ3 has been rumored for some time now. And these speculations were intensified when the upcoming device’s supposed benchmark sheet surfaced online.
Written as the back camera specification for the Sony Xperia XZ3 is a 47MP component. According to the document, it can capture an image with as much as 7,932 x 5,932 resolution. It is also supposed to take 4K videos in Ultra HD quality.
If the specifications written on the leaked benchmark sheet are accurate, this could mean that the Sony Xperia XZ3 is the first-ever smartphone to sport the IMX586 camera from Sony as well. It was only announced last Monday and is advertised as the camera with “the industry’s highest pixel count” of 47MP.

Meanwhile, noted leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (also known as @OnLeaks on Twitter) shared one of the first leaked 5K render photos claimed to represent the Sony Xperia XZ3 design with help from CompareRaja.in. They maintained that the images were taken from factory CAD, which could mean that it is already a sneak peek of a finished Sony Xperia XZ3 device.
Aside from the single-lens camera, the leaked renders also show that the Sony Xperia XZ3 is likely to sport the conventional fingerprint scanner on the back. The device will have slightly curved edges on the front screen. But it will neither sport a notch nor an edge-to-edge design.
Sony is still mum about the Sony Xperia XZ3. However, with so much leaked information and many photos now spreading online, it could mean that the official announcement of the Sony Xperia XZ3 is happening soon. And one very feasible date for that is sometime close to the IFA Berlin conference, happening from Aug. 31 to Sept. 5.
