Snap Elections likely for Greece in September/October

PM Tsipras ousted the Syriza rebels and reshuffled his cabinet, but it is not likely to change the uncertain overall outlook for the government. The European Commission expects the talks to last until mid-August.

According to polls, the Greek public still strongly supports euro membership despite the almost complete surrender to the creditors' demands. Also according to polls, Syriza remains by far the preferred political party.

"Snap elections later this year are likely, and Syriza would be the favourite", says Nordea Bank.

A good moment for Tsipras to call the elections could be when the first signs of economic normalisation appear. Currently the speculations are mostly about September/October.
