Nigel Farage, the former leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) is the hero of the right-wing group in the Europe, who successfully campaigned in favor of an exit from the European Union in the United Kingdom’s June 23rd referendum. After his success, he announced that he has achieved what he has been aiming for and sidestepped from the leadership of the UKIP Party.
He has been one of the prominent visitors from Europe’s rightwing group in the Republican convention in Cleveland, Ohio where Donald Trump on Thursday formally accepted his nomination for this year’s presidential election.
Europe shouldn’t prematurely celebrate Nigel Farage’s resignation as the leader of the UKIP party:
The resignation of Nigel has given him more time and relieved him from bigger duties and responsibilities of a leader. During the convention, Mr. Farage announced his plans to tour Europe to gather supports of a similar referendum in other countries. It would be again premature to conclude that Mr. Farage is not popularly known outside the United Kingdom, hence he can’t influence people much. While he will be there to influence people but his presence are likely to boost the morale of rightwing politicians all across the Europe.
It is largely believed that after the UK referendum there could be similar referendums in Netherlands and Denmark. People have already rejected the cozy relationship EU is pursuing with the Ukraine in a non-binding referendum and if a referendum on membership is held, the result could be similar to that of the UK. Netherland’s right-wing leader Geert Wilders already promised a referendum if he comes to power. However, Denmark and Netherland aren’t the countries with possible referendums which may not lead to an exit but negotiated membership. Right wing politicians are rising all across the Europe, even in France, Austria, and Germany. Mr. Farage says, Euro-skeptic thinking in Ireland is quite deep.
Mr. Farage may not influence European people much but right wing leaders who are yet to promise referendums and guide them on marketing that.
