KNOXVILLE, Tenn., May 03, 2017 -- Hulu and Scripps Networks Interactive (Nasdaq:SNI) have completed a new distribution agreement that will see SNI’s U.S. networks included on Hulu’s new live TV streaming service.
The deal, which was announced by Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins at the company’s Upfront presentation in New York City today, gives Hulu both live and on-demand rights for Scripps Networks Interactive’s HGTV, Food Network and Travel Channel at launch, as well as DIY Network, Cooking Channel and Great American Country. Hulu’s live TV streaming service launched in beta to the public today.
The Scripps Networks Interactive portfolio joins a growing list of popular channels from 21st Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company, NBCUniversal, CBS Corporation, Turner Networks and A+E Networks that will be offered at launch.
“Our networks attract large upscale audiences looking for compelling family-friendly content, and are must-haves for advertisers and distributors alike,” said Scripps Networks Interactive Chairman, President & CEO Kenneth W. Lowe. “Hulu has already built a strong and loyal customer base, and the new live TV streaming service will be an important addition for consumers looking for new ways to access the world’s best content.”
“Having been in the streaming TV business for nearly a decade, we know just how important it is to give viewers access to the networks they value the most,” said Hopkins. “Scripps Networks Interactive is home to some of TV’s most popular lifestyle brands, and we’re excited to now offer it in both our live TV service as well as our existing premium streaming library.”
In addition to the company’s current ad-supported and ad-free subscription video on demand products, Hulu’s new beta service offers subscribers the most valuable, premium live TV offering on the market in a groundbreaking, new user experience for under $40 per month.
