In the past, traditional tummy tucks, also called abdominoplasty, required weeks of downtime and recovery following surgery. With Dr. Pollack’s Tummy Tuck 2.0, the initial pain that follows the surgery is greatly diminished using a long-lasting injectable pain medication called Exparel, a non-narcotic injectable pain medication temporarily blocking any feeling of pain for the first 72 hours. According to Dr. Pollack, “Exparel extends the initial comfort following surgery another 72 hours post-op, significantly reducing the need for any oral pain medications.” The prescription injectable contains bupivacaine which temporarily blocks the nerves sending pain signals to your brain. Using this medication has proven to significantly decrease the need for any narcotic painkillers which can often interfere with the initial recovery process.
In addition, Dr. Pollack performs tummy tucks using a new drainless technique. This method of abdominoplasty eliminates the need to place drains in the incisions, significantly reducing the risk of several complications. According to a study on the complications from tummy tucks by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, “Hematomas (blood collections) were the most common major complication, followed by infections, blood clots (venous thromboembolism), and lung-related problems.” With the drainless tummy tucks, hematomas and seromas (fluid build-up) are less likely to occur.
Using the combination of Exparel and the drainless technique, Dr. Pollack’s Tummy Tuck 2.0 makes abdominoplasty easier and better than ever. It is a breakthrough technique making one of the most frequently performed plastic surgery procedures more popular than ever. Patients get the results they want with less recovery downtime and with less pain.
