Puratos released its first carbon-neutral chocolate product Chocolanté 60Days in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, France, and Belgium after it was awarded a Carbon Neutral certification.
Chocolanté 60Days will soon be available in Italy.
Joint venture Puratos Grand-Place Indochina (PGPI) manufactures the ‘tree to bar’ chocolate in Vietnam in 60 days through fermentation in acacia boxes and slow roasting. The process generates lower emissions due to its close-to-source production and short transition time.
The chocolate was found to meet the requirements of the carbon-neutral standard by the Belgian climate consultancy CO2logic.
The assessment covered the greenhouse gas emissions of all of 60Days chocolate’s production, from the purchase of ingredients, transportation, and energy consumption during manufacturing and packaging.
Consumers can expect Chocolanté 60Days to be fresher and more flavorsome with low sugar content.
According to PGPI managing director Gricha Safarian, they believe a great chocolate product must not only taste good but must also be produced in an environmentally-friendly way as far as possible.
