“Power Book II: Ghost” will be the first story in the “Power” spinoffs promised by Starz and the show’s producers. The drama has concluded but the viewers will get to see at least five more stories that will feature some of the key characters seen in the six seasons of the crime drama series.
The spinoffs were made after the producers were overwhelmed by the great response of the viewers and they think that the story is also interesting and worth another run. However, they could not extend the plot any longer so they created stories for some characters. This will probably allow the fans to see backstories or the future of Kanan, Tariq, Tommy and more.
Book II: the first part
“Power Book II: Ghost” is the first in the series of spinoffs. Ghost’s name is on the title but it is not sure how his character will play here because this drama was supposed to be focused on the show’s powerful women as revealed by showrunner Courtney Kemp.
“I have really strong female characters in a way that I am trying to push even further than what we had in the original Power,” she told TV Line. “Mary J. Blige’s character is like super strong and interesting, and the same is true of the lead characters in the next spinoff after that. I think women, especially women of color, but all women, are going to find really great inspiration while watching as we move forward.”
At any rate, “Power Book II: Ghost” will premiere with a story picking up just a few days following the shooting of James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick). By this time, since it is the only way to get his inheritance, Tariq went back to college but it was revealed that he is already planning something illegal once again like getting his mom, Tasha, out of jail.
Cast members
“Power Book II: Ghost will still feature some of the original cast members but there will be new ones as well such as Mary J. Blige. She was revealed to have joined the cast, and her character will play a big part in the upcoming premiere. Entertainment Weekly reported that she is a smart, savvy and strategic woman in the spinoff.
Finally, Lakeisha (La La Anthony) will also return alongside Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.). Davis Maclean (Clifford “Method Man” Smith) and Monet (Mary J. Blige) are the newest recruits.
