‘Poldark’ Season 3 Spoilers: Series Writer-Creator Debbie Horsfield Hints Shocking Plot Twist for Upcoming Installment; Star Aidan Turner Teases New Developments for Ross, Demelza

‘Poldark’ season 3 is set to premiere sometime on June 2017. Series writer and creator Debbie Horsfield recently hinted at a shocking plot twist that will be revealed in the upcoming installment. Meanwhile, Aidan Turner teased new developments for Ross and Demelza.

According to Channel 24, Horsfield revealed that the upcoming season of BBC One’s popular live-action adaptation of Winston Graham’s novels of the same name may feature a shocking plot twist about one of the most talked about issues on the show.

The series’ writer and creator hinted that Aidan Turner’s Ross Poldark may not be the father of Elizabeth’s (Heida Reed) baby. It was previously speculated that Elizabeth may have gotten pregnant from her intimate encounter with Ross in season 2’s most controversial episode to date.

Horsfield said during the BFI & Radio Times Festival held in London, "The books are really ambiguous about it and while we may wish it to be - certainly for drama - it makes it more interesting, the book is not clear and we’re not saying at this stage either."

Ross and his wife Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson) struggled with marriage problems after Demelza found out about Ross’ infidelity with Elizabeth. It took a while for Demelza to forgive him as she felt that his heart always belonged to his first love.

Horsfield explained, "I personally feel [Ross and Demelza] never have those discussions. I personally feel it’s something that they steer clear of." She also expressed her excitement for the new season as it will introduce new characters as well as a storyline with “new heights of conflict, feuding, passion and drama."

Meanwhile, Turner teased the upcoming season as well as what to expect with Ross and Demelza as the series moves further along. According to Radio Times, the 33-year old Irish actor teased, “We only wrapped six weeks ago so getting the series out this soon is great.”

Turner also defended his character and his misdeeds in the past season saying, “You can’t necessarily stand by Ross’s actions, he’s clearly made a huge blunder, but he’s a flawed character… You don’t set out to play a hero, or someone who's an iconic legend who doesn’t make any mistakes, and just rides into town and saves the world. He’s a real guy who makes real mistakes.”

He also revealed that the new season will have a time jump from the events from its predecessor when it premieres. Turner teased, “When we start the third series we get a feeling that a lot has passed; months have passed and [Ross and Demelza] already discussed what has happened.”

He continued, “And so they’re not at each other's throats, but there’s definitely questions about who the father [of Elizabeth’s baby] may be and whether the relationship is going to last.”

‘Poldark’ season 3 was commissioned by BBC One last July 2016. It is expected to premiere sometime in June 2017.
