Sony fans have been waiting for news about the PlayStation 5 for a long time, and recently, the company made waves by providing some details regarding the device. However, an analyst decided that the information was coming along too slowly and went on to provide his own thoughts on the matter. If his prediction comes true, the next-generation console will cost $500. This would be a disaster.
There is no doubting that one of the reasons why the PS4 has been able to stay on top of the video game console industry is because of its affordable price. Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Ace Research Institute predicts that this is going to change with the PlayStation 5, Comic Book reports, by costing $500.
To put this in context, such a price tag would make the game box $100 more expensive than the current PS4. The analyst also believes that it would be coming out in November of 2020. Putting aside the predicted release date of the unit, slapping such a high figure on the PlayStation 5 could mean its doom.
For those who may remember, the PS3 faced a similar issue during launch in that it cost significantly more than its Xbox counterpart. This led to the unit performing poorly in its early life and only picked up the pace after the expense of buying one was reduced. If the PlayStation 5 does come with a $500 price tag, it will turn off a lot of gaming enthusiasts. Many of them could simply turn to PC gaming for that amount of money.
Then again, it could also be argued that the PlayStation 5 would be worth the cost with features like backward compatibility and 8K gaming being on the table. If the November 2020 release date predicted is accurate, players might want to start saving now.
