Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Volunteers at Warren County Habitat for Humanity

EDISON, N.J., Sept. 08, 2017 -- This summer, five members of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ (NRCC) Local 254 volunteered at a Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build project in Warren County. On the project, NRCC carpenters dedicated their time and expertise to build a foundation for one U.S. veteran’s home on Pleasant Valley Road in Washington Township, NJ.

The volunteer effort was a part of Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build program. The program provides volunteer, homeownership and employment opportunity to U.S. active service members, veterans and their families. This year, the program selected Bob McManus and Heather Freeman to receive the home. Freeman, who served six years in the Army National Guard and one year tour of duty in Iraq, qualified for the home because of her service to the nation and the local community. Anthony Abrantes, Senior Council Representative and Team Lead of Local 254 led NRCC’s effort to give back to the Washington Township veteran and their family.

“Having our carpenters volunteer on a project that helps veteran families really shows what our Union is all about,” said Abrantes. “They donated their time on a Saturday to help this family. It’s the least we can do for a U.S. veteran who served our country.”

The dedicated members of Local 254 who donated their time included: Eric Philips; William H. Philips; Peter Figuccio; Andrew J. Epifane; and Robert Hopkins.

The Washington Township home is expected to be completed in the fall.
