After the well-received "Next" update's release, it seems the first round of new version bug blues is coming to "No Man's Sky." Players have reported save files getting rolled back to the beginning of the game, losing much of the progress that has been made since they started playing the game.

For any worried players who have already logged in and encountered the bug, the community has come to save the day. Kotaku has mentioned that there are ways to circumvent the save rollback issue.

The “No Man's Sky” Reddit community says that it is possible to recover the previous save state by editing save files, but this option is only available for players on the PC. Reddit user u/corey_m_snow has posted instructions on how to implement this fix.

Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will be unable to edit their cloud-based save files, but for those who do their own backups through other storage media such as USB drives, it is possible to recover the save state.

Thankfully, players don't need to throw their copies of “No Man's Sky,” digital or otherwise, in the trash bin and scream in frustration just yet. Sean Murray, Hello Games director, tweeted that a hotfix for the reported issue will be coming for "No Man's Sky" players on the PC very soon. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 fans will have to wait a bit longer due to Microsoft and Sony store certifications of the updates.

Based on the hotfix notes posted by Hello Games developers on the game's Steam message boards, the save file rollback may be affecting players who save after partially repairing a technological item. Players who do not save after the save file was rolled back can be assured that their save states will be recovered by the hotfix.
