Nintendo has allegedly started mass production of its upcoming Switch 2 console, according to industry insiders. The console, expected to release in March 2025, promises to build on the success of its predecessor with potential backward compatibility for Switch titles.
Nintendo Switch 2 Mass Production Allegedly Begins
According to new claims circulated by TechRadar and attributed to David Gibson, a senior analyst at MST Financial, Nintendo has allegedly begun mass-producing the successor to its popular Switch platform.
According to Gibson, the principal assembler of the company has invested heavily in production automation and equipment for Nintendo, leading him to believe that a Switch 2 is currently in the works.
"No-one seems to have noticed the Nintendo assembler- Hosiden is spending ¥2bn on production equipment and ¥1bn on automation in FY3/25 for its major customer in amusement (Nintendo)," Gibson explains. "Sept news and March 2025 release for [the] next device," Gibson remarked on X, adding that he anticipates it.
Graphing Hosiden's rising expenditure on automation is also part of the X post. As Tom's Guide points out, it also reveals further financing for production equipment and a new plant in Vietnam, all of which provide plausibility to the console going into production.
Switch 2 September Unveiling Expected
Additional confirmation that Nintendo will unveil the Switch 2 in September completes the post. On top of that, Gibson has already announced that March 2025 will be the console's debut date.
Although rumours have circulated that the console will be unveiled this month, the news of a release date in March 2025 is both surprising and thrilling, as it means we won't have to wait long to get our hands on the next generation of gaming hardware.
Backwards Compatibility for Switch 2
Fans of the Switch's original titles will be ecstatic to hear that the Switch 2 "has backwards compatibility support," as revealed by leaker Nate the Hate on the GamingLeaksandRumors Reddit forum.
When asked about the possibility of Switch titles being developed for Switch 2, Nintendo said they "will do our best to make the transition smooth for our customers."
