NEW YORK, March 09, 2017 -- At the end of the settlement date of February 28, 2017, short interest in 2,345 Nasdaq Global MarketSM securities totaled 7,280,848,100 shares compared with 7,247,866,478 shares in 2,351 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of February 15, 2017. The end-of-February short interest represents 4.47 days average daily Nasdaq Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.49 days for the prior reporting period.
Short interest in 792 securities on The Nasdaq Capital MarketSM totaled 706,233,838 shares at the end of the settlement date of February 28, 2017 compared with 696,841,525 shares in 791 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 2.32 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period’s figure of 2.36.
In summary, short interest in all 3,137 Nasdaq® securities totaled 7,987,081,938 shares at the February 28, 2017 settlement date, compared with 3,142 issues and 7,944,708,003 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 4.13 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.16 days for the previous reporting period.
