SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 08, 2018 -- NBC Olympics, a division of the NBC Sports Group, has selected Cisco to provide IP video contribution and distribution solutions, along with networking and security solutions for its production of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games, which take place in PyeongChang, South Korea, from February 8 - February 25. The announcement was made today by Dan Robertson, Vice President, Olympics Information Technology, NBC Olympics, and Dave Ward, CTO of Engineering and Chief Architect, Cisco.
Cisco will provide technology innovations and capabilities that enable a resilient and highly dependable IP and compute environment, one that meets the demands of live and file-based content production. Cisco will also provide data center security solutions, as well as mobile collaboration solutions to connect its remote and onsite production teams. Key components include:
- Network routing and switching technology via the Cisco carrier-class ASR9000 and Cisco Nexus® portfolio
- Wireless and POE-enabled (power over Ethernet) switching infrastructure and Virtual Private Network (VPN) services on Cisco Next-Generation Firewalls
- Cisco Digital Content Manager (DCM) for broadcast transport of IP Video utilizing Hitless Merge Technology
- Cisco Firepower Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention System (NGIPS) and Cisco Stealthwatch
- Cisco collaboration solutions including Cisco Telepresence®, Spark® and Spark Board® technology
“With Cisco’s help, our network operations center in PyeongChang mimics our world class facilities in Stamford, Connecticut, and helps our teams deliver compelling, interactive sports coverage to our viewers, no matter where or when they are watching,” said Robertson.
