Elon Musk thrilled attendees at a California event by confirming that the Tesla Cybertruck will feature Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised mode starting in August.
Musk’s Exciting Reveal at X Takeover
Elon Musk recently announced at a California event a new launch date for Tesla's Cybertruck's Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD).
X Takeover took place on Sunday in San Luis Obispo, California, and Musk was a virtual guest there. He answered questions from Tesla Owners Silicon Valley's John Stringer and Kelvin Gee. Stringer inquired about the anticipated release date of FSD for Cybertruck owners throughout the interview, which lasted little over an hour, Teslarati shares.
"I think that should be coming out in August," Musk stated.
In a semi-joking manner, Stringer said that it was "technically two weeks," and then Musk provided some additional information.
Countdown to FSD Supervised Release
“Yeah. At some point in the next two to four-ish weeks, it should work on the Cybertruck,” Musk noted. “I’m not sure the exact timing, because we just have to test it and make sure it works well. But 12.5 is where a lot of things come together, where you’ve got the… we upgrade the highway stack to the latest version, so it’s… you don’t have the old highway stack and the new city stack.”
In addition to discussing the wider release of FSD Supervised v12.5, Musk and Stringer shared anecdotes about individuals they knew who had traversed the nation in Cybertrucks, only to be relegated to "peasant status" due to the lack of FSD.
Evolving Predictions for Cybertruck's FSD
In May, Musk announced that the Cybertruck FSD would be available in v12.5. He had previously stated that the version would be released in late June, but he later changed his mind and claimed that he believed "Cybertruck FSD was a few months away."
Friday, Tesla started releasing FSD v12.5.1 to certain non-employee vehicles. However, Musk has already stated that the first versions of 12.5 will only be available for Model Y vehicles with HW4 before being pushed to other vehicles.
