Being able to deliver the same performance and quality as a DSLR camera with their smartphones has been the goal of all makers. However, every attempt at doing so has failed, from the unwieldy “Samsung Galaxy S4” to the “Sony QX” wireless cameras. Thanks to the modular nature of the Motorola “Moto Z,” however, legendary camera company “Hasselblad” was able to create a mod that finally overcame the problems that past attempts faced.
“Hasselblad” is a titan in the camera-making world, as the Swedish company has been cranking out high-quality photo-capturing devices that cost thousands of dollars for years now. As such, it’s no surprise that a camera mod it made for the “Moto Z” would deliver on practically everything that anyone can reasonably expect from a peripheral attached to a smartphone.
As BGR notes, the “Hasselblad True Zoom” is likely one of the best smartphone accessories ever created, though this is likely because the trend of modular phones is still young. Even so, by offering 10X zoom, 12-megapixel of capture power, and a modest 1/2.3-inch sensor, the attachment makes the “Moto Z” into a device capable of delivering DSLR quality performance.
Granted, it doesn’t perform nearly as well as some of the high-end cameras that “Hasselblad” or other camera companies are offering, as The Wall Street Journal points out, but it does overcome the hurdle limiting smartphones in terms of offering better photography options. With a few tweaks and future versions of the “Moto Z” modular phone, a revolution could be in the works.
The camera mod costs $250 and can only be obtained via Verizon at the moment, and the same applies to the “Moto Z.” The mod also only works on the modular phone. All users have to do is place it on the back, let the magnet latch it on, and use it like they would any digital camera. A power button, a capture button, and a zoom interface are all available at the tip of their fingers as well.
