‘Modern Family’ season 8’s episode 16, titled “Basketball,” is set to follow Phil as he struggles to redeem himself by training hard all year-round after floundering in last year’s basketball game. Meanwhile, Gloria’s enemy Donna calls her out for lack of support in Manny’s school.
The synopsis for “Basketball” posted on TV Guide reads, “Phil (Ty Burrell) tries to rebound from a disastrous turn in last year's charity basketball game by practicing day and night, but the pressure is on when renowned hoopsters Charles Barkley and DeAndre Jordan show up this time and start making bets.
Meanwhile, Gloria's (Sofia Vergara) nemesis calls out her lack of support at Manny's (Rico Rodriguez) school; Claire (Julie Bowen) tries to keep Jay (Ed O’Neill) from finding out about a work mistake; and Jay worries that Joe (Jeremy Maguire) just isn't afraid of him at all.”
It seems that Phil will have to keep himself in check so as not to cave in from pressure of having two NBA stars Charles Barkley and DeAndre Jordan attend the game he has been training for all year. When the two basketball stars begin making bets, this puts Phil in an extreme amount of pressure, according to Christian Today. Phil’s previous game didn’t go too well and he vowed to redeem himself.
Meanwhile, Gloria’s nemesis, Donna Duncan (guest star Jane Krakowski) will call her out and attempt to shame her for lack of support in Manny’s school. Gloria will have to do everything she can to show Donna and the rest of the school that she is capable enough.
Claire will be dealing with problems of her own as she attempts to keep a mistake at work a secret from her father Jay while Jay grows more concerned that his son Joe doesn’t even fear him as a father and authority figure.
‘Modern Family’ season 8’s episode 16, titled “Basketball,” is scheduled to be released on ABC on March 8, 2017. It was directed by Jim Hensz and written by Elaine Ko. It will be followed by episode 17, titled "Pig Moon Rising," directed by Chris Koch and scheduled for March 15.
