Microsoft’s Surface Pro Has Gotten Boring, And That’s A Good Thing

When software giant Microsoft announced that it was going to create its own hardware line in the form of the Surface convertibles, the world laughed. The mockery and doubts continued all the way through until the Surface Pro 4 came out with some truly staggering features. Microsoft took what it learned from previous attempts and used it to create what is now its most boring Surface unit yet.

As Fast Company notes, the latest Surface Pro tablet laptop isn’t necessarily average, but an example of technology that has reached maturity. Before the newest iteration, Microsoft would experiment with features regarding both the internal aspects and the design of previous Surface devices. This made it a renegade of sorts, standing out from the rest of those fuddy-duddy companies. In short, it was cool.

Now, the Surface Pro has grown up and left those days of experimentation behind. Unveiled during the Surface event held in Shanghai, Microsoft presented a brand new version of the hybrid and it doesn’t have a serial number.

Instead of a simple workaround unit to revamp an aging lineup, the new Surface Pro actually has quite a few interesting features. Included is the new M3 processor from Intel, which is an incredibly efficient chip that extends battery life for up to 13.5 hours. The processors don’t have fans, which makes them quiet.

The new gadget comes with pre-built LTE connectivity and the Surface Pen gets a neat boost in sensitivity, climbing up to a respectable 4,096. This ensures that writing and drawing come with no lag time.

This newest offering from Microsoft comes with a $799 price tag and is touted to be more powerful than the MacBook Air, The Street reports. Based on the features and the design of the unit, it’s clearly aimed at the more creative crowd than casual users.
