Microsoft Gets Sued For $5M Over Disastrous Windows 10 Upgrades

Security experts have been lauding Microsoft’s Windows 10 OS for its impressive security system, but not everyone is happy with it. In fact, users are now suing the tech giant for $5 million to compensate them for damages that the upgrade supposedly caused. Some of the issues that Windows 10 reportedly came with include erased documents and hard drive failures.

The Windows 10 rollout was a pretty much the most disastrous OS upgrade that Microsoft has ever done. It was mired with controversies about misleading prompts, abysmal timings, and the havoc that it caused on people’s computers. Now, the software giant’s careless actions are coming from behind to bite it with several users filing a lawsuit due to the problems that the upgrade caused, Ars Technica reports.

Microsoft is getting sued by three plaintiffs, Stephanie Watson, Robert Saiger, and Howard Goldberg. All three are pointing to specific damages and inconveniences that the Windows 10 upgrade caused them, all of which resulted in their computers becoming unusable.

In Watson’s case, she claims that the upgrade occurred without her permission, which should not have happened. This unwanted update resulted in Watson buying a new system since the old computer could not be fixed, even by professionals.

Both Saiger and Goldberg did consent to have Microsoft upgrade their OS to Windows 10 and both had cause to regret this decision. Both lost important data, as a result, paid significant sums for repair, and even lost revenue.

The lawyers representing the plaintiffs just asked a Chicago court to classify their case as a class-action lawsuit, Computerworld reports. If the request is granted, it would open the floodgates for other Americans affected by the buggy OS upgrade to join in. This would then result in a much bigger payday if the plaintiffs win and could cost Microsoft a lot more than $5 million.
