Stephen Curry, an American professional basketball player for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association (NBA), has filed to trademark his “Curryverse” metaverse platform.
This platform will allow fans to receive free non-fungible tokens or NFTs, and Curry wants this to be exclusive to him and the fans, thus, he applied for a trademark. Moreover, it was said that with his latest move to offer NFT services in virtual spaces, the basketball superstar is apparently expanding his talents to the metaverse.
Steph Curry was said to have filed the trademark application for the Curryverse virtual world on Oct. 26. CoinTelegraph reported that in the filing, it was indicated that the Curryverse Metaverse would also be providing some online gaming services in the virtual space. Players there can get both fungible assets and NFTS, which can later be bought or sold in online marketplaces.
The trademark will allow Curry to launch his own version of the Metaverse, and millions of his fans can register in the “Curryverse” after its trademark application is approved. It was reportedly filed under the SC30 Inc. brand, and if the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) chooses to give the thumbs up, the 34-year-old NBA player will have the exclusive rights for his “entertainment services including personal, virtual, and metaverse appearances.”
Furthermore, the trademark application also extends to exclusive rights to Curry’s virtual clothing, merchandise, business management, fundraising for charity, and investment services. It will also cover software as a service (SaaS) that highlights software platforms for the promotion, designing, selling, and trading of NFTs.
Then again, it was noted that Stephen Curry still has to release more detailed information about the Curryverse. Business insiders predict that the basketball star will be successful in this metaverse venture since he can easily get the attention of his 47 million followers and fans on Instagram alone.
This is not the first time that Stephen Curry has done business related to crypto or NFTs because he was also previously featured in the FTX crypto exchange’s ad in March.
Meanwhile, Crypto News reported that as of Nov. 1, Curry’s trademark application status is still pending based on the data from the World Intellectual Property Organization’s IP site.
