Melania Trump was slammed by the public again after she announced the completion of the tennis pavilion at the White House. The netizens have bombarded social media with negative comments following the announcement on Dec. 7.
The new tennis building
On the White House’s official website, it was stated that the First Lady Melania is pleased to present the completed tennis pavilion. The release also explained that aside from the rehabilitation of the tennis court and grandchildren’s garden, this project also includes the construction of the new building.
“I am pleased to announce the completion of the Tennis Pavilion on the White House grounds. Thank you to all of the talented craftsmen who made this project possible and to the generous supporters of the White House,” the FLOTUS said. “It is my hope that this private space will function as both a place of leisure and gathering for future First Families.”
The public’s response to Melania’s project
Despite the good outcome of the project, Melania Trump drew flak as people said that she could have just used the money spent on the construction to help COVID-19 patients. They said it would be a big help for health care as the number of cases across the U.S. surged again.
At the end of the release, it was indicated that the project was carried out in partnership with the Trust for the National Mall and the National Park Service. Lastly, the First Lady shared that the construction was funded by private donations.
Still, people were quick to criticized Melania Trump. As said before, many people were telling her it was a wrong move because she could have spent the money on coronavirus, which is more important.
There were citizens who defended the First Lady and pointed out that the government did not spend a penny on the construction of the new tennis pavilion. Plus, the project was planned and approved a long time ago and just got caught up in the pandemic.
“Lots of criticism for this but it was funded with privately donated funds and in the planning for a while and was in progress in March and announced,” Sandra Cook Aiken commented. “So it’s renovating the WH facilities and fell at a bad time. Get over it. She’d been criticized with or without Covid. She’s been an awesome First Lady given absolutely no credit or attention she deserves.”
Many people agree that Melania Trump did a good job, but most people snubbed what she has been doing. Meanwhile, she is expected to leave the White House in January as Donald Trump has to leave after Joe Biden’s win in the elections.
