‘MIB 23’ Cast, Updates: Jonah Hill Casts Doubts on ‘Men In Black’-’23 Jump Street’ Crossover Film

‘MIB 23’ lead actor Jonah Hill admitted his doubts over the ‘Men In Black-’23 Jump Street’ crossover film’s fruition. He revealed that complications may make creating a third installment in the ’21 Jump Street’ series a challenge.

According to /Film, Hill offered a grim update for the much-anticipated planned mash-up of ‘Men In Black’ and ’23 Jump Street’ saying that the film is still far from being turned into a reality.

Hill said, “I had the idea. But I doubt that movie will get made. They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff. The Jump Street films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes.”

The 32-year old was first introduced into the ’21 Jump Street’ full-feature remake as Morton Schmidt in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s 2012 action-comedy film based on the 1987 television series of the same name. He was joined by Channing Tatum, who played the character named Greg Jenko.

Lord and Miller’s film received positive reviews from critics upon its release on March 2012 in the United States, with praises for Hill and Tatum’s performances as well as the screenplay prepared by Michael Bacall. According to Box Office Mojo, ’21 Jump Street’ earned $201.58 million worldwide, with $138.44 million received in the domestic box office against a production budget of $42 million.

A sequel entitled ’22 Jump Street’ was then released on June 2014, with Hill and Tatum returning to reprise their respective roles. Lord and Miller’s follow-up also received generally positive reviews and grossed $331.33 million worldwide on a budget of $50 million.

It was then announced that a crossover with the ‘Men In Black’ franchise starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith was planned as well as a yet entitled female-led spin-off film. ‘MIB 23’ was confirmed on September 2014 but Tatum was yet to sign on for the project. Director James Bobin also confirmed his involvement for Sony Pictures’ film but updates began to drop down since then.

According to Coming Soon, the third installment in the action-comedy franchise was set to follow Schmidt and Jenko as they join the Men In Black agency although Jones and Smith may not be appearing.

Miller revealed in previous interview, “[I]t’s definitely a really interesting concept that makes you think… Talking about it, developing it with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum and Rodney [Rothman] and the studio, we can’t just do the, ‘Hey, it’s the same thing again’ schtick because we did that already.”

‘MIB 23’ is a planned crossover film between the ’21 Jump Street’ franchise and the ‘Men In Black’ cinematic series. It is set to be directed by James Bobin and stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.
