LG Electronics Inc. has signed a partnership with two entities to develop technologies related to terahertz, a key frequency band for 6G communications.
Under the agreement with US-based Keysight Technologies Inc and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST), the target of the 6G research completion is by 2024.
LG had worked with both entities, establishing a 6G research center with KAIST in 2019, and signed an agreement with KAIST last year to study 6G technologies.
Keysight Technologies is a major supplier of 6G terahertz test equipment. It has been providing equipment to LG and KAIST's 6G research center.
LG expects the 6G network to be commercialized in 2029.
According to LG, 6G will provide faster data speed and lower latency and would be more reliable than 5G. It would also bring the Ambient Internet of Everything or AIoE, which provides an enhanced connected experience, to users.
