Burger King, America's third-largest burger chain, unveils a surprising addition to their menu: Ketchup Nuggets. Exclusively available in Canadian branches, this new take on chicken nuggets marries the crispiness of fried white meat chicken with a ketchup glaze.
While ketchup has long been associated with burgers and fries, chicken nuggets are typically served with other dipping sauces. Though nothing stops you from dipping your nuggets in ketchup, Burger King, McDonald's, and Wendy's have all offered a wide range of choices.
But now, Burger King in Canada has taken a bold step by coating its new chicken nuggets in a ketchup glaze. These crispy-fried Canadian white-meat chicken nuggets with a ketchup twist have quickly grabbed attention.
Priced at CAD 4.99 (USD 3.77) for an 8-piece order, Burger King's Ketchup Chicken Nuggets have been inspired by the popularity of ketchup-flavored potato chips in Canada. Though this concept may seem odd to Americans, it's a hit for our neighbors up north.
Traditionally, when Burger King introduces a new item in Canada, there's a good chance it will later be available in the US. However, this may not be true for Ketchup Chicken Nuggets, as their appeal seems more regional than global. It's similar to how poutine, a fast-food staple in Canada consisting of fries with gravy and cheese curds, hasn't been offered by Burger King, McDonald's, or Wendy's in the US.
The launch of McDonald's Chicken McNuggets revolutionized the fast-food industry and expanded beyond just burgers. It allowed McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's to explore new menu options and broaden their horizons. Other chains followed suit and began offering their version of chicken nuggets. Wendy's successfully introduced its "crispy" chicken nuggets. At the same time, Burger King initially struggled until the release of their spicy variety in 2017, following the success of Wendy's limited-time offer of spicy nuggets.
The fast-food landscape continues to evolve, with Burger King adding a ketchup twist to its chicken nuggets. While this concept may not appeal to everyone, it's an exciting option for those looking to try something different.
