Kellogg to purchase wind energy from Azure Sky in pursuit of renewable energy goals

The move is part of the firm's efforts to source over 50 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent.

The Kellogg Company will purchase a 360 GWh portion of electricity, equal to 50 percent of the volume of electricity used across its North American manufacturing facilities, annually delivered from the Azure Sky wind project.

The move is part of the firm's efforts to source over 50 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent.

Enel Green Power recently started constructing the Azure Sky wind + storage, a 350 MW wind farm paired with approximately 137 MW of battery storage, at Throckmorton County, Texas. It is the company's third hybrid project in the US that integrates wind and battery storage at one site and its first large-scale hybrid project globally.

The Azure Sky project's 79 wind turbines can generate over 1,300 GWh each year.

Before partnering with Kellogg's, Enel also worked with Mondelēz International in September 2020, selling solar power from the Roadrunner Solar Project in Upton, Texas.
